M L Shaw Fabrications Ltd. introduce the next generation of intelligent commercial kitchen ventilation for 2010. IKV is a demand-based system and is recommended within CIBSE TM: 50 publication for energy efficient kitchens.

The system works by automatically adjusting the speed of both the extract and supply fans to meet the ventilation requirements of the equipment being used at any particular time. This simple action provides huge carbon, energy and financial savings for the end user as tempered air and fan energy is not wasted at low periods of cooking.

The unique IKV filters are designed to open in direct response to heat generated from cooking appliances below whilst the extract and supply fans increase their speed simultaneously. As appliances are switched off, the filters close and the fan speeds are reduced.

More importantly the action of opening and closing the baffle filters in relation to fan speeds helps maintain a constant velocity through the open filter. This maximises grease extraction and system performance, reducing expensive duct cleaning costs and more importantly significantly lowers the risk of fire within the duct.

The patented IKV system is the only system available that can operate at maximum energy efficiency levels but also maintain maximum system performance. Other demand based kitchen ventilation system are energy efficient but, become very performance inefficient at low period of cooking due to an inability to maintain this critical constant velocity through the filter.

If you are considering installing a demand based kitchen ventilation system then we suggest you download the document below which highlights how the performance efficiency of other demand based ventilation systems dramatically reduces at lower periods of cooking potentially creating a dangerous and unsafe environment for staff to operate in.

    The benefits of IKV include:

    • Reductions in energy usage
    • Reductions in carbon dioxide emissions
    • Optimum system performance levels are always maintained.
    • Reduction in kitchen noise levels
    • Improved temperature control
    • Reduced maintenance costs
    • Improved staff safety due to carbon dioxide sensors
    • Reduced fire risk
    • Building management system compatible
    • LED low energy lighting incorporated
    • New patented filter design that allows internal cleaning
    • Fully automatic system
    • Conforms to DW172 specification and recommendation within the new CIBSE Guide TM: 50 on energy efficiency in commercial kitchens
    • Short system payback periods – approximately 2/3 years
